Dr. Darlene Wiggins Dockery
founded Carpe Diem Educational Consulting to provide personalized support to students navigating the career planning and the college admissions process. Students get the support they need to develop their college lists, complete their applications, write their Personal Statement and essays, and prepare for interviews. In addition, we provide parent workshops and professional development opportunities for educators.
Darlene Wiggins Dockery, Ph.D. graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Duke University where she received the President’s Senior Leadership Award. She has a Ph.D. in Educational Policy, Planning and Leadership from The College of William and Mary, the second oldest university in the United States, and one of only eight “Public Ivies” in America. Her specialty areas are Gifted Education and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. Thus, she has, personally, navigated the university application process at highly selective universities in the United States, and has, professionally, supported students at varying stages in the process as they planned for and applied to college.
In addition to professional experience, Dr. Dockery has the unique perspective of having simultaneously navigated the college admissions process with her own daughter, and as the host parent of an international student from China. As a result, she understands the nuances of the process of helping students find the right fit and the different challenges faced by American and international students.
